Any changes between OSX 10.6 & 10.7 that affect Max?

Hi,
I have been using a max effect in ableton that sends part of the text in a scene (number) description to an external max program that then turns the text into a song select message and sends it to a specific midi port. Since Ableton doesn't support song select, I had to have somebody program this for me as I don't really know Max. Everything worked fine on my macbook running OSX 10.6.8. I recently bought a new laptop running OSX 10.7.4. Now, for some reason, the external program just sends any midi note played on the keyboard as a song select message.
Does anyone know of any changes between OSX Snow Leopard and Lion that would cause changes in a Max application? This happens even if I don't load ableton and the max plugin.
I'm running Max Runtime 5.1.9.
Thanks for your help!
