Problem with submix track.

Hi all. I'm having trouble doing a submix track, I'm pretty sure it must be some kind of dumb error. I read the manual and did (i think) exactly what it said.

I created a midi track, loaded simpler, and put a kick drum sample on it. Created a midi clip, played the kick. So far so good.

Then I created an audio track for a "drums" submix. Didn't touch anything on it.

Then I sent the audio out of the kick track to the submix track. Didn't work ok. Am I missing something here?

This is the kick track:

you have it set for audio ext in
this is not the correct setting
set it to the same name as the midi track

Chalupa:
No, I don't wanna set it to receive from the midi track, as in that case I wouldn't be able to receive audio incoming from other tracks, this is a "many to one" submix track.

Jeskola:
I think I had already tried that, I'll check set monitor to on as soon as I can and let you know.

Thanks.

Tom EXT IN means an external output of your soundcard
not a routing from within live
try setting it to No Input

yeah, setting it to no output will be overridden by the tracks that have the channel as output.

You need to press the arm input button on your submix channel.....at the bottom just above the A/B switches.........

youre still not going to get any input on it until you take it off Ext In
Ext In is not routing from within live it is routing in an EXTERNAL INPUT
for instance a guitar or a keyboard that exists outside of your computer in the physical world
but hey dont listen to me, what do i know?

you can route all the tracks you want to to track #whatever
but if you have track #whatever set to recieve from ext in then you are overriding the inputs from the other tracks.

what you're saying sounds logical in a way, but its not true

open Live and check it when you get a chance -do it the way he has it routed

send the audio from the impulse track to the subgroup - leave the audio subgroup set to Ext In -

now turn on the monitoring switch in the subgroup

if he's still not getting sound, the problem is not the Ext In on the subgroup ..

PS: arm recording will automatically monitor the track, so this will work, but its overkill unless you are actually recording something into the clips slots in the subgroup.

Chalupa.....not so.......in fact if you have it set to ext in and you have audio arriving at that input the two signals wil be mixed. As long as he has monitor set to on or auto, arms the track and sends the audio to that channel from any other track he will be ok......

no .. if he leaves the subgroup on auto, he will get no sound :)

.. also, like i said, no need to arm the track - it *will* work to monitor, but it will also arm recording in the track - which is not always what you want

im home from work, you guys need to check this when you get home tonite :))

EDIT: mamalux, ya, its easy to get them swapped - best way to remember imo is that arm sets the track up to record into clips, monitor on does not.
