Are there any crashreporter logs left either on boot or when you power up the device? Check out ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter (~ = your home directory) and /Library/Logs/CrashReporter to see if there's anything telltale going on...

Also, I know this sounds stupid, but have you tried removing the ram stick that you added and retrying the device?
(fwiw, I think that this problem is related to your software update, but it never hurts to check. Also, what packages did you install in your update?)

What do the logs say? Paste them back in this thread, please.
Also, a few more thoughts ocurred to me. I bet you just upgraded from OSX 10.3.7 -> 10.3.8, didn't you? What version of the m-audio drivers are you using (only the latest one supports 10.3.8)? Have you tried the latest ones from their website? If so, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling them?

this seems to be cropping up a lot with the 410 - what i did was used the latest 410 installer to de-install the drivers, then re-installed, then repaired permissions, and i was back up and rrunning

from the MacMusic forum:
" Try to trash your midi drivers in Library/Audio/Midi Drivers/, unplug all midi devices, re-Onyx & reboot, re-install midi devices drivers, re-plug & reboot.
It's seems you have to keep on trying until it works... B-(
Good luck.
edit: i forgot this one to trash: (User)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist "

Hi there,
Everything just runs nice. What I did is just reinstalled the M-Audio 410 drivers, unplug, reboot and MIDI setup just came back like nothing happened, Logic runs smoothly again."
Hope this help...

You know, if I had a dollar for every time I had to reinstall the m-audio drivers, I'd probably be able to afford a MOTU card by now...
