is the hum the same in every pickup combination/position?
Re: How to clean up Guitar hum
yes, the hum is the same in every pickup position.
can this tell something?

it's your computer monitor or some other device radiating large amounts of noise. try standing with your guitar and turning in a circle. if the noise goes away stop, you're probably standing with the offending device to your direct left or right (you're standing parallel to the EMI wave.)
with 3 position single coils you get a humbucking effect when two of the coils are on at once.

Re: How to clean up Guitar hum
I read the description of Tubeman Mk II, and from what I could see,
it doesn't have ground lift.
Connecting a computer/laptop/audio interface to another audio equipment can
cause a background hum due to a "ground loop". This can be related to the
electrical wiring of your house, venue, etc. A suitable DI box should effectively
interrupt the ground line, thereby eliminating the hum.
Might be worth a try. If the DI box comes after the Tubeman, I think you
would need a "passive" DI box.
Have you tried posting the question on gearslutz?
There are some knowledgeable people there, esp. on technical/electrical aspects
of music production.

or just try to plug all your gear into sockets that sit on the same circuit breaker. then there's no ground loop to break.miyarakira wrote:I read the description of Tubeman Mk II, and from what I could see,

a guitar needs a Hi-Z input for the pickups to give their full tonal potential, a guitar in a line or mic in is dull and lifeless
Re: How to clean up Guitar hum
Now with some experiments i found that the Tubeman can cause hum on channel 2 and 3 (the overdrive channels), so i can say it's pretty obvious if distortion=hum.
On channel 1 things are quiet.
I think i don't have big wiring issues, 'cause with different <tubeman /eq /effects (in Live)> settings i can control the hum to clean levels.
Now i think it's a question of presets and fx settings (!).
@miyarakira: thanks for the link
