Hi im looking for a pair of headphones to produce when im on the plane etc. I dont want anything too fragile or bulky so i can stick them in my bag easily. Ive got sennheiser hd 25s for djing but they hurt my ears after wearing them for a while. Any ideas????

Have same problem with HD 25. On the move use Shure or Ultimate Ears IEMs but since few months mostly Aiaiai Tracks- very light and comfortable, not really for producing but definitely not tiring, surprisingly nice bass for such size and design. Only other lightweight I liked - AKG Quincy Jones on ears, but they are already bit bulky.

noise cancelling?? headphones that will actively mess your audio?

been using Beyer DT250 for years - detachable cable, comfortable, great sound and isolation

most comfortable long session headphones, tuff too, i wear em snowboarding

sony XB 500 or 700's.....doubles as a neck pillow when not producing

Ironically, I am not a big Bose fan either but after a friend of mine lend me his QC30 for some time, I was amazed at how well I could mix on them. I have never been able to mix well on headphones, but with the noise canceling Bose QC30 headphones I was able to mix almost as well as on my Meyer HD-1 monitors in the studio. I have a lot of other headphones, including Sony, Sennheiser, Ultrasone and Audio Technica, but with the QC30's I am able to mix much better than with any other. I think some of it has to do with the fact that you can hear all the detail because of the noise cancellation. I've done complete mixes that have been released on them without having to go into my studio. Seriously, this is coming from a guy who thinks Bose is usually nothing more than marketing hype but these headphones are the best $300 I've ever spent! Plus, they're super comfortable and I can wear them for hours.

walked into a Bose store once, the salesgirl made a bee line for me.
"hey, how does that sound to you?"
"awful, there's no mids and the highs are tinny" (natural response, oops)
"that's why you add this subwoofer to your setup" she opens a large wicker chest to show the sub.
I turn around and walk out.

googling "Bose sucks" is fun for LOLZ.

Beyer DT770, another way to say comfortable.

bulky, but... they fold up small enough to put in a pocket on a backpack... or on top in the main compartment.

They aren't the most neutral sounding cans in the world, but they are very comfortable and because of the noise cancelling, you can actually hear your music on a plane...

if you are going down that route, you should check out TB Isone and the Focusrite VRM Box too...

The AKG 550 are more money but they are probably more detailed and open yet still good at blocking noise.

you guys are recommending big cans, bad idea, I've broken a few pairs from the shuffling around on planes. taking them off and shoving them into a backpack and whatnot.
