MIDI: Playback in the middle of a note,and better step input

i hope these haven't been mentioned yet:
ableton live should definitely detect at the start of playback whether the play cursor is actually in the middle, somewhere between note-on and note-off, of a midi note.
i am an ambient composer, often using very long notes/ chords. upon playback, live doesn't realize that it is currently somewhere within a note.
so, i must rewind to an earlier position in the arragement. this is pesky for my workflow.
also, the midi step input must be more intuitive, such that i wouldn't need to press the arrow key between midi note inputs. would be faster and better.
please address these requests at the latest in live 9.

This is beyond the capabilities of any MIDI sequencer I have ever heard of. It's hard enough to chase controllers, quite another to chase notes.

that capability is built into cubase 5 and reaper 4 - these two sequencers are my secondary daws which i know that they can do such a thing.
so it can be done- it is being done.
thus, live, unfortunately, is lagging behind these other two hosts in this particular point.

You're right, I stand corrected. I was just reading the Studio One manual today and noticed it also has "long note" chasing.

+1 for long note chasing. it's annoying to play back a few extra bars to have all midi notes triggering during arrangement editing. for pads and droning sounds it can be a lot of extra bars!

This is the one thing I miss the most after changing from Cubase to Live, I hope Ableton is implementing this anytime soon.
