sound problem

I am using 6.01 on 2 machines 1. iMac 2008 4GB RAM 2.6MHZ etc and it all runs fine. Cueing in the headphones for DJing etc, all good.
As soon as I switch to my MB Air I get a terrible hissing noise over the whole output. Even worse when I cue up.
I have exactly the same setup on both machines, I am using Fast Trak Pro.
Latest drivers etc.
Anyone?
