Ableton's sync problems: a myth, or a terrible truth?

Hello everybody.

I bought a used copy of Ableton and I had not time to install it because I had to send my pc to repair.
But in the while I am quite pissed off because I read of so many sync problems with Ableton and I start thinking that it was a wrong purchase.
Apparently Ableton is totally unable to sync properly with any external device, especially if Ableton is slave.
In my case, Ableton will be slave, and the Elektron Octatrack will be Master (it must be, in order to loop properly).

So. I would highly appreciate any feedback about this matter, and about how is it possible to solve it.
I read of Innerclock System devices but if to use Ableton I am forced to buy a 800 euro syncing device I am sorry dear Ableton but that is ridiculous, a complete deal breaker for me.

I hope these are just legends or that there are much much much cheaper solutions.

Thanks for the help guys!

I sync my Elektron gear to Live all the time on my MacBook Pro, and pretty much never have an issue with it these days. A couple years ago I was getting some very slight drift, but even that was really minor and not really an issue in my case. Best advice I can give is wait til you get your computer back an try it for yourself before getting mad at something that might not even be a problem for you.

Why don't you just cross that bridge when you come to it, for starters?

'read it on the internet' paranoia got a hold of you before you even opened the box?! Man up, boy ;-)

When I used to slave one laptop's Live to another laptop's Live over old skool midi cables (which, technically, is exactly the same as what you are looking to do) I would sometimes have to check and change the latency timing ( in the midi sync prefs) when I started a new session with someone, but after we did a quick sound check, we'd stay in sync for six hours without issues.

I'm very sure you wont have any issues with this.

Perhaps what you were reading was that live cannot be used (actually just really sucks) as a rewire slave? Maybe there's something I missed, but like I said, me and my partner did this for years without issue.
