Yeah, I'm also wondering if it will be invitation only or a public beta of sorts.

People have been signing up for a few months already, it's invite only... i imagine they have enough already?

Really? But why does CDM (and others) then say that "beta testing will begin next week" if it's already been going on for a while?

Probably as the testing up till now has been primarily alpha testing with a select bunch of users, same as with previous releases.
Plus they had to wait until they announced Live 9 before they started public beta testing or it would have given the game away.

Somewhere in the FAQ says they will send more invites as release dates gets near.
