The pricing hasn't gone up, there was an error which has now been corrected.

The current pricing is in line with previous versions of Live.

What are you talking about? It has:

Are you going to deny that now?

Prices were announced in error (I'll give Ableton good faith on that), and have since been corrected to reflect the accurate upgrade prices.

If the price is too high for what you perceive the value of the upgrade to be, then don't upgrade.

If you have lost confidence in your choice of DAW/the company that makes it, then feel free to jump ship for any of the myriad other DAWs out there

If you have a workflow that you cannot do with another DAW, then continue using your existing license for Live 8 with no ill effects.

Or continue to bitch about not getting your money's worth and blahblahblah like whiny children complaining that the other kid's piece of cake looks bigger than yours

And youre the adult?

People are entitled all right, entitled to an opinion. If Ableton spent less time (and money) on faux Steve Jobs unveilings then maybe they wouldnt have made such a colossal mistake. Now Ive only dabbled in marketing but pissing off a fairly large percentage of your user base when there are already plenty of other choices, and new ones coming (Bitwig) isnt the smartest. Nothing to do with childish or entitlement. If Bitwig cost >$300 I know where my cash is going, so theyve got until march to release it.

Nothing new in Live 9 or Push is something I dont already have. So you can keep your piece of the cake, Ive already got the whole pie ;)

Max comes with 9 but....

Post by adamdegraff » Mon Oct 29, 2012 5:35 pm

Hey,
I'm currently a 8 suite user. I'll be upgrading to 9 suite when it's out. Just recently I was thinking of getting Max for Live. I see there is a discount right now. But I'm all for saving a buck or two. So... if I buy M4L right now, will it lower my price on Live 9 which comes with M4L?

Thanks.

It's pretty hard to follow Ableton's pricing strategies as they change all the time but just now AFAIR the answer is NO. There was a good deal on the Live 8 to Live 8 Suite upgrade, $194, where you got MFL as part of the free suite 9 release. However, Ableton said it was a technical mistake and yanked up the price $100 two days later. So some lucky ones got this deal and others not. Hence one reason there are 30 pages on this thread now about Ableton pricing....

Now, personally, I have very little need of the other suite components, FM synth plug-ins are plentiful, doubt Analog is as fun as U-He's Diva and who needs another 20Gb of orchestral samples, especially for Live use which is more in tune with modern dance music. As such a good upgrade step from Live 8 to Live 9 with MFL would have been really nice and most likely a very effective marketing vehicle from Ableton. However Ableton blew it.

Looks like there is a $50 credit on the upgrade price if you already have M4L

But honestly I'd say wait and get it with the upgrade

You can sample it royalty-free for the weekend, but then the price goes up by $100

From the Live 9 FAQ:
The Suite 9 upgrade price for Max for Live owners in our webshop has been automatically discounted, and it’s 50 EUR / 65 USD / 65 CHF lower than a regular upgrade.
