Push Chord Patterns

This instrument is very intriguing to me, you can play the scale from C1 to C4 just using 5 columns on the left.
?

Use these patterns to play any chord you wish, as long as you have the pattern correct, you'll play the chord any where in any key. As you can see, the C major chord and D Major chord have the same pattern.
?
Playing Major chords in every key within 3 octaves looks like this, you'd never do this in a song, but it shows how powerful this concept is.
?
Iv'e invested more money than I'd like to admit into my Euro modular , Ableton, please tell me I can use Push through midi and use my cherished modular!
?

push-o-lar
my guess is that you can "play" a midi track which is then routed wherever you want.

It's even easier when you play "In Key" - if you look on the Push page on our site, check out the "One shape per chord" picture. You only need to know one shape for every minor and major triad in all 12 keys.
(And yes, I run a bunch of hardware synths with Push, using External instrument devices and M4L to control the synths, from Push...you can even do MIDI to CV with M4L if you have the right audio interface (Motu or RME FF400).

Push's key layout is what's known as an isomorphic layout. In that respect Push is nothing new. What Push offers is a combination of features tailored to electronic music production with Live, of which the isomorphic note layout is just one. Ever looked at the buttons on an accordion? Isomorphic key layout. Do some Googling as there are other existing ismorphic MIDI controllers out there (there's even a couple of iPad apps with them).

it is new in a daw controller for sure, and it's the first mayor daw that offers it.

Yah. but an accordion doesn't have key pressure that can be applied to the cutoff of a Moog filter!

So what you're saying is... Not only is this the most badass controller to software implementation to date, but it also trains you on playing the accordion?? I just keep getting more pumped about this!!!

For fluid playing you'll also want to memorize and get comfortable with the alternate chord shapes. You'll hit the edges as you move around (if you set up your preferred iPad app or launchpad with the same 8x8 pitch layout and start practicing you will run into this). Of course it may also just be an easier fingering regardless of the edges depending on what you're playing.
For example simple uninverted major chords:
Code: Select all
........
.....5..
...1...3
........
..3..5..
...1....
..5.....
....3...
.....1..
It's easy to work this out for any chord, just 5 to the left and up a row to get the same note.
This all assumes the chromatic layout of course.

I'm just sad that I've put so much practice into the frustrating 4 note chromatic layout via Lauchpad/Maschine, only to find that there will now be this... Which can be interpreted as 3 note. But on top of that have scale modes. !! Oh well haha

I'm hoping someone can make a Max patch so that it can do something similar to SoundPrism Pro.

If you own a Novation Launchpad you can use Midi Katapult to set it up as an Isomorphic keyboard. I'd like to share the Isomorphic keyboard template I use with Katapult. There are three pages, Chromatic, Diatonic, and Chords. Chords is a group of mid cc's I use to trigger midi clips containing chords I copied from Soundprism Pro. Download Katapult (
http://www.midikatapult.com/ ), follow the setup instructions in the documentation, then replace the text in the layout.txt file with the text below.
