BCR2000 not working properly

Hey,
Problems with my BCR2000. Ableton not receiving midi from the BCR properly. Working sometimes and not others. Example:
In midi map mode click on parameter in Live, move rotary on BCR2000, nothing happens. Turn BCR off and suddenly the midi mapping appears on screen in Live. So it seems the midi info is being recieved, but only as in the act of turning off the BCR. Turn the BCR back on and still no midi happening.
I have this issue in Ableton 8 and 9Beta, both the most up to date versions. BCR is showing up in the preferences as though it's working properly.
I'm running Snow Leopard on a '08 MBP.
Anybody else run into this issue?

you shouldn't turn the BCR on and off while Live is running.

Hi, i just picked up a bcr2000 and had issues at first as well.
after days of googling, i decided against any blue hand automatic
parameter control of the top 8 rotaries.
and decided to manually midi map anything i wanted on the bcr.
and haven't had any issues with response.
basic set up in lives midi prefs-
Top Midi Panel settings:
Control Surface=none
in/out=none
Takeover mode=none
Bottom Midi Panel settings:
Both input/output track and remote on.
Thats it. nothing else.
And i made 5 presets on the bcr wherein every knob/button is a CC.
Allowing mapping to any and everything.

Yeah, I wouldn't normally but I had tried everything else. It was only when I turned it off and on again while Live was running that I got any response from it at all.
Can't for the life of me figure out why it's no longer working. Haven't used it in about 6 months but was using it in a number of projects before then. Now when I open those projects I get nothing. No response from the BCR whatsoever.

1) Maybe check the audio-midi settings in OSX or
2) test the BCR with a midi monitor to check if the problem is the BCR or Live:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=80344
Did you by any chance use a different operating-mode or preset (with different midi message-types) on the BCR in the past?
I hope it's not something like this:

Yep, that's exactly what it is. Not Ableton it would seem, just my BCR gone dicky on me. I've contacted Behringer support to see if it's a known issue with any resolution but it seems to be the thing is just gone on the blink and not sending midi messages in any consistant way, but still showing up fine in the preferences.
Shite.

i've sometimes had problems with my BCR. i found that sometimes when i'm midi mapping, live will set the mode to something other than absolute, making it funtion strangely. setting it manually back to absolute fixes that.

The problem here seems to be more serious. The midi receive light in the top right corner of the screen is showing no response when I'm using the BCR, so even though it's recognised as a midi controller there is no actual midi information being received by Live. I've emailed Behringer support and got an email back telling me they would respond by the next work day, that was yesterday morning and I've nothing back form them yet.

is this ALL the controls?
thing about that box is that it's so user customizable that we can set the controls to bad states.
try loading the automap preset into your BCR:
go to a preset you can erase
hit edit and right arrow, the LEDs will spin
in Live go to options-preferences-midi
next to where your BCR is listed hit DUMP.
wait until the upload stops
STORE the preset.
now it should automap.
mine's been working great for YEARS, I was an early adopter.

Tried what you recommended but no joy. Got a ERR22 message on the BCR after doing the dump. Still not working.
Just to be clear:
I went to one of the presets, pressed Edit and right arrow. got the spinning red circle going. Once that stopped I tried a dump from Ableton and then got the spinning red circle again. then got the ERR22 message. Still not working.
Thanks for your help. Let me know if I've done that correctly?

don't wait for the spinning LEDs to stop, do it while it's still spinning.

Yep, tried that. Made no difference. Still got an ER22 message and the thing still won't map to anything or send any midi info.

In my experience, these break easily, made of quite flimsy plastic and prone to damage. Maybe just buy a replacement, I've bought 3 in the past few years, handy device but cheap as fuck in terms of build quality.
