Hey people. I am working on producing rap/hip hop tracks in a lower budget home studio. I have been working in Live 8 for about a year. I have no formal training with music production, but throughout the year, I have become confident that diligence will pay off. After all, its all in the ears right. You can't teach that.

Okay, I run ableton on a very capable HP laptop. All USB, no FireWire. : (
Use an older midi compatible keyboard(USB) that syncs with live, and a at2020 USB condenser mic.
Output through a standard home stereo receiver with 8 inch CHEAP... Stereo speakers.
I am looking to upgrade. Does that surprise you!?!

I have decided to purchase an xlr condenser mic of better quality and will be using at most 1 midi device in place of my keyboard.

My question. . . I can't seem to find a standout interface to suit my needs. I need a midi/xlr interface that will support my current setup or replace my stereo receiver completely. I am willing to purchase some studio monitors, but under $250 will be more than sufficient for my needs. Until I've determined what my ins/outs situation will be I will wait to purchase monitors. For now I am ready to put money into the interface.

Don't really understand what you mean by 'replacing your receiver'?

Have you looked at the NI Komplete Audio 6? It has pretty good reviews & reasonable connectivity. Not sure about the quality of the mic preamps...

I haven't actually come across that one yet. Browsing for it now.As far as replacing my reciever goes. I just need outputs that will work with monitor speakers. My output is a standard red/white audio adapter for headphone jack connected to a typical home stereo reciever and stereo speakers.

i typically do hip-hop style beats and vocals with live bass and/or guitar. i use this:

my microphone stays plugged in, so with the exception of having to swap out the guitar and bass while recording... (i only record one track at a time) it meets all my needs without the need to fiddle around. it also comes with a pretty good reverb.

P.S. if you don't get good monitors it will be really difficult to make good mixes.
