Hi all!

I need some help producing a certain kind of genre, which I just cant seem to get with Live. I am trying to go for a Madeon/OVERWERK kind of sound. More OVERWERK then Madeon :) I want to be able to get that thumping chorus. If you could tell me, give me links to videos, etc. that would be great!

You've got the wrong DAW man.

You need Fruity Loops. Ableton Live doesn't come with Thumping Chorus as standard.

Ignore this guy ^

What's your current skill level/background? Have you used Live at all or are you just starting out?

I take it you've seen Madeon's Pop Culture live mashup video? More of a performance but maybe a starting point.

Live's clip format makes it especially suited to making collages of little microsamples (especially because you can just drag in MP3s and start chopping). Google 'complextro' and take a look at http://www.reddit.com/r/complextro for more examples, also check out this post from there in particular.

Personally I would start simply - copy some simple-ass electro songs and get comfortable writing in the basic electro format before you move on to the complex/glitchy stuff.

Then you could do things like duplicate a track (i.e. the bass), assign the duplicated track to crossfader B and everything else to A, slap a beat repeat/distortion on there then practise isolating that track every bar or two on the downbeat.

Also listen, listen, listen. It might be helpful to take one of your favourite songs and put it into Live's Arrangement view. Then split it apart section by section. The difficulty analysing this type of music is there is so much 'icing' it can be hard to focus on what's actually going on, so it can be helpful to break it down into component parts.

You might find that half of the work that goes into that Thumping Chorus is really done in the buildup...

Alternatively you could just send Madeon a pm ;)
