I would like to record my work made on the synthstation 49 with ipad into a midi channel on ableton. i got the synth linked into my mackie onyx and that linked to my iMac. But the midi channel i load the sounds in on ableton shows a meter but says midi to ; No Output and cant select Master in the list. i got it to work once by accident , and then started a new file and it didnt work any more. Please does anyone know what im doing wrong.

and the thing is it records my work into the midi channel but when i want to play it back it doesnt send it to the master because it says no output. and i cant select the master outpu in the list that is normally there. For instance when i load i normal instrument from the ableton rack.

You want to record MIDI coming from your synthstation 49, right ?

First of all, is it enabled as a midi track input in the prefs ?
Then all you have to do is create a midi track, select your synth49 as input source, arm the track, and record wether in arrangement or in clips.

I assume by 'channel' you mean 'track'. Well, you're recording midi, not audio. You need to load an instrument in the track if you want to produce sound.

because it records my stuff itno midi and i can play it back and you see the meter of the midi track responding but where it says midi to ( and normally it says beneath it MASTER ) now says beneath it no output and if you click that i cant select master .

and if i record it into an audio track , it records and i can play it back to my master. but then i have a wave form and no midi. And it worked on midi once 2 days ago but i dont know what i did to get it that way.

Read the part about the "External Instrument"-Device in the manual.

What do you want to produce sound ? the synthstation ?

I had to look it up as well: SynthStation49 Keyboard Controller for iPad - plays audio, too.
