Hello All,
I am trying to find a way to back up my song files to DVD. So I have a backup and I dont fill my hard drive.
Is that possible? I am having a hard time understanding how the "managing files and sets" honestly.
Thanks!!

Copy the Live project folder to your DVD drive.
Also, get yourself an external enclosure + WD-Green drive for backup. It cost less than $70 for 1TB Google Shop Western Digital WD Green WD10EADS 1TB 32MB

thanks. Is that a USB hard drive you are referring to?
Does live make a new project folder if you delete it after copying to a DVD or USB drive?
Thanks

It is an external USB drive. TigerDirect has a 3TB external for $100 after mail-in rebate (#129 + s/h) still cheap).
Live will not create a new project folder, that's what you do when saving the track(s). And why to a DVD? You'll need some form of DVD burning software (free or commercial) and DVD's can get scratched (yes and HDD's can crash too!) but I always keep them in a slimline jewel case or sleeve or full size case if no slims around.
I need to start putting my stuff into their own project folders when saving....easier to find them when scouring the hard drive.

I thought DVD would be a good way to go. Right now every song I have done ( I started with Live 8 august 2012) is in the same project folder.
With 32 GB Thumb drives maye they are an alternative as well.
Thanks

32GB thumb drive is an option but they can also get damaged (if tip gets bent/broken it is pretty much trashed from what I hear/understand). And 32Gb may be about as high as I'd go for reliability. I've read the 64GB-128GB are so-so on this. Surprising if so and cost is a bit prohibitive for the 128GB, better off with an external USB/e-SATA/FW enclosure and put your own drive in if you're a techie type.

Remember to collect all and save before copying the folder over. This will save all your samples in the project folder rather than live having to search for them later.

I need to dig up the manual to refresh my brain on this. Normally when working on a track I do a save as and put it into a folder that I created previously outside the library area. If while working on this I do another save but not collect (and I have say MIDI clips from a VSTi) it won't save anything from the audio side of the MIDI clip (if recorded to arrangement) to that folder, but I'd need to do a collect and save which then would put any VSTi instrument clips into audio (basically flatten?) in the folder then?
Man I've been away from Live for way to frickin long.......
