Just wondering what people would recommend when trying to achieve this sort of bassline. Pretty common sound going round in bass-heavy house and techno atm.

Comes in at 30 secs on this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bj9aA6q0-Jw

1:35 on this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANP_BkWVkLI

I realize that it's probably a very simple sine or saw wave but seems to have a fatteness to it. Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks again.

NI Massive - Hollow Bass, or 1991 with the noise turned down.

get the freeware TAL Bassline, or TAL U-NO 62 and try to play around only with the sub osc.
it's normally a pulse or a square (depending on the settings), sine doesn't sound like this.
but the sub osc is not enough, you need to add some fatness with the chorus.

Sounds like a fm synth to me, or subtractive synth with fm oscillator modulation and possible some pulse width modulation on a square wave. Operator might be able to do it, not likely though. Never heard it do good garage type bass. The stock fm synth in Logic is very capable of that sound, with a few presets that are pretty much dead on to the sound in Justin Martin - Don't Go track.
