Midi map crossfader on a friends computer?

Hi everyone. Been burning my brain cells trying to figure this out.

The idea is to tag team DJ with two computers and two seperate APC 40's. However we are wondering if it is possible to midimap to each other. I.E. Midimap my crossfader to his computer. So when I start fading in my track it turns down his crossfader as well.

Is this possible?

Thanks!

I don't know about the actual routing setups and such, but this might help: http://www.cablestogo.com/product/28108

^That cable is just for supplying more power to 2,5-inch harddrives.

I would suggest that you connect your computers via a midicable or go with the osc-protocol and midi.

So you could either get two of these

...or you could connect your computers only thru software: midi>osc>wifi<osc<midi or midi>osc>lan<osc<midi

I think you will need 2 midi cables for bidirectional messaging. In the simplest case, assuming the apc is capable (i dont have one so I dont know), you could mirror the effect of one apc on the other by connecting midi in from one to midi out on the other, but you want to have user-defined mappings such as: turn up midi cc n on apc1 causes turn down cc value m on apc2. This will need to go through some form of computation so a direct midi link between the apcs won't work. Your midi cables will need to go between your midi interfaces and you will need to route the midi signals inside your computer from apc to midi mapping program (midiox on a pc perhaps?) to midi out to other midi interface and back again. Midi routing on a pc can be done with midiyoke. MIDI is a language worth learning.

Thanks guys. We decided to just hook them up to the same computer  .

It would be very cool to be able to run the same ableton instance on both computers. But it seems that type of coolness isn't quite here yet.

That's an option too... you can use a max4live-device if you want to use live on multiple screens.
