What gear to pick for production and Dj'in

Post by kqb09168 » Thu Jan 31, 2013 8:11 pm

Hi guys,

Been using traktor for years and now switching to Live 8 because I got sick of the limited possibilities of traktor.
Loving Ableton so far but when it comes to picking hardware I've got a dilemma.
SInce I travel often I bought a Traktor S4 + F1 because it's portable and did what I wanted at the time.
Now that I'm slowly understanding Live I'd like to sell my current gear to buy an ableton controller that allows me to dj but also to work on production when I'm not doing a gig.

The push looks like a beauty but how do you feel about using it to dj (I'm use to tweak knobs and faders ;))
The APC's are awesome but the push with live 9 looks better for production

So please help me to decide what gear to get !!!

(budget around 400 pounds)

Depends a lot on how do you plan to dj with ableton.

I would suggest going to the NAtivekontrol site http://www.nativekontrol.com/ check out what some scripts can do for some controllers, then you will have an idea of what controller you need..

For me the ideal controller for traktor and ableton, for djing and producing would be the Xone K2 if it had a good script for ableton live.

Thanks a lot for your reply I'm going to have a look at it.
Small precision, I plan to use Ableton as my only software to DJ.

Also on how I'd like to DJ with Ableton would mainly be to mix between multiple tracks, add samples, cut loops, use quite a lot of effects, and progressively incorporate loops or pieces I've produced with ableton separately. The objective in the future would be to slowly move to full live sets mainly using my own samples

Whats your views on the push to do this, even tho it's not out yet...
Thanks

ps: I'd also like to have the possibility to play live instruments (drums percussions) in my dj set

Yeah APC 40 seems definitely like a good base to have to control faders/effects/ and audio clip. Heard few critics about the mikro saying it wasn't really worth the money in comparison to MPD's even if the pads seem to be superior.

Still sounds like APC 40 + PUSH would be a winner right ?

Finally, had a look at LIVID instruments and their OHM 64, any thougts on this ?

Thanks again

when u buy the apc in a well known store, u can get 3 years guarantee. i think enough.

livid is maybe lives longer, but cost twice i would say.

Atm sounds like it's going to be push first plus APC 40. any thoughts on Ohm 64 in comparison to APC + PUSH ?

thanks Timbeau
