I've decided not to upgrade due to personal reasons about how the pricing situation was handled.

It has nothing to do with the price itself, btw.

i'm going from Suite to Suite because it's worth it so that i can laugh at all the rabble rousing and bickering about pricing schemes that equate to trying to selfishly squeeze a better deal out of a company while blaming them if not able to do so. in other words... i'm not that cheap. besides, i can see some feature not working later because of trying to out smart the system only to find that it costs more to fix it than the measly 40 or 50 bucks of "savings" at the time of purchase/deception.

New EQ8 with Spectrum Analyzer
Drums to MIDI
Melody to MIDI
Glue Compressor
Additional library Content
Session Automation

those features, in that order, make it worth it to me.

I'm going suite to suite. I don't need the samples, but there's enough other stuff that I feel might enhance my workflow (EQ8 improvements*, new midi tools, session automation, some MAX devices) that motivates me to pull the trigger.

*I've used Sonar's Sonitus eq for a long time and have been longing for a solid native eq in live. Hoping eq8 delivers.

funken aren't there some changes to the reverb (at last and at least) that require Max though?

there may be other changes/benefits that having Max would allow for too...

With Suite, you get the full OIC - a package that was priced at US$800 when it was originally released.

yep, thx. that's what i was thinking of.

add that to my list of reasons to go Suite to Suite. 8)

I just confirmed by the way (email), that if you already have M4L and you "upgrade" to Live 9 rather than Suite, you do get all the Max devices.
^ very cool... and in writing. i don't have M4L so for me i guess that would be another reason to fully upgrade.

i don't see myself doing too much designing with M4L... because, admittedly... i'm not exactly surging ahead with my music right now  / :( a lot of that has to do hours in the day divided by responsibility...OT... still, i will be more than happy to take advantage and sing the praises of anything that M4L adds to my personal repertoire of fun stuff to explore and make music with.

on another OT note. i purchased Logic last night. impulsive buy... but hey... since i've become Macverted i might as well find out what the hoopla is all about

suite + M4l -> Live 9.

I like to make my own sounds and I recently switched to a 128GB SSD. Therefore 40GB of sounds isn't something I really want.

You record your own orchestral sample libraries? Nice!

funken wrote:Designing in Max looks pretty complicated as you might imagine, but I've done the first few tutorials and there's nothing desperately hard to understand, just a lot of info, looking at the tutorial list. I guess most people just use the devices, to start with at least.
Tone Deft showed me M4L in action. i was pretty 8O 'd back by it... but yeah, it's a modular environment. reminds me of circuit bending. i wasn't about to purchase the software at the time as it seemed that the ends did not justify the means... as long as i was driving the bus anyway. now that it's included in Suite... i definitely see some amount of (at least) basic tinkering/exploring in my future... i think that convo reverb will be a good piece of kit to investigate.

i'm excited about this upgrade. :D

i'll still have a Live 8 shortcut in my dock.

Meant more on the included instrument racks/presets :P Not a huge fan of the OIC samples anyways. If I really wanted to get an ensemble sample library (first I'd need a new hard drive) I'd probably go with something like EastWest

Yeah EastWest basically rules them all.

I think I'm probably gonna stick with 8 until they put time stretch in Simpler/Sampler.
Only thing I care about in 9 is the clip automation! Also I never did care for MAX.

BUT EastWest doesn't come bundled with 9 so... something is better than nothing. correction; something formerly sold at over half a grand is better than nothing. there has to, at least, be a few samples in there than someone/anyone could use in their composition.

all things considered, and there are aplenty.

i'm going from full suite 8 to full suite9 w/m4l...
i want it all. all of it. every last bite. no sense in limiting my myself.

Having m4l opened up a massive sequencing doorway for me where abletons piano roll
for the most part, was needing a workaround for my needs.
as long as i have reaktor and m4l within abletons' extensive rack madness and flexibility..i'm happy

cheers
