LPD8 in Ableton.

HI, does anyone know how to set up the LPD8 to control a drum rack through one preset and then control something else in the Ableton environment such as the looper.
Im trying to set the pads to control buttons on the looper, and then change preset to control the drum rack. I know how to set up the presets in the editor then select that midi channel in the instrument track. BUT; when the looper is not on a midi track then i can't select a midi channel. I havent tried putting the looper on a midi track and send audio to it. I will try that later and update it here,
