Where to begin...

Hello again all! So I had a few questions and wanted to seek some advice on starting off. I'm completely new to all this and debating whether to start my music path with DJing or production. My ultimate goal is to learn both...be able to remix and create my own music while being able to perform it live on stage. That being said Im looking at Point Blank Online classes. Do you guys recommend I start with the DJ performance class or the Ableton live production class? I know a lot will say neither just do YouTube classes but I've tried already.

I planned on doing the 4 week DJ class on Mar 4 then starting the 24 week music production with Ableton Live in April or May. This route allows me to try out a Point Blank course and decide whether its for me. Then I could take the longer more detailed course after successful completion of the DJ one. My only issue is what knowledge is expected or required before starting both?

Would I need to know or buy stuff in the DJ class before beginning production or vice versa. I don't have a DJ controller only an MPK25 for now and I really want to make sure I can learn as easily as possible so I'd appreciate any advice. The genres of music I'm interested in are hip hop/trap, trance step, and complextro. I would eventually try the dubstep course with the music production with Ableton certificate then go back and take EDM trance. Again, just not sure before or after DJ performance.

I hope I made my issues clear and ya'll understand them. My final question is this: Logic Pro or Ableton for the genres Im interested in? I see Point Blank offers classes on hip hop and electro for Logic Pro and I have the program on my Mac as well as Ableton and Massive but I planned on using it only for mastering or mixing. Ableton seems much easier to use for what I'm trying to do right now. Any thoughts?

start with DJing if you're completely new to music

it will help you understand how tracks are made, and what makes you like this or that more

then you'll start having ideas for production

then you'll learn production with more solid musical knowledge and better orientation

IMO, cheers :D

(soldier of sound is a bit of a huge name for a music noob, isn't it?? )

supamonsta gave sound advice, but for the sake of playing the devil's advocate:

I went in the opposite direction. I feel like starting with production first, the quality of your productions will be pretty solid by the time you want to start looking into performing your music. From there you will have different paths that you can choose for performing your music, and can get really creative in more ways than what you would be used to if learning to strictly DJ. (I'm not hating on anyone who chose the opposite path)

Either way it comes down to what you are more comfortable with.

:D

Both are really good advice. I actually have thought about both of those arguments before. I guess Ill just have to experiment more and see what fits me best. As far as my name haha I was in the Army for 6 years. And the noob part well that comes with time. I have been making mixtapes since Run DMC though :-)
