I did a search and couldn't find anything on this
I'm considering it or the 410 (In case I decide to go Pro-Tools again)
but...anybody use it and do you like it
I'm seeing mixed feelings about M-Audio products
I'd like an extra output here and there but really I'd rather save the money and spend it on more RAM, some nice plugs and an extra hard drive - know what I mean
anyone?

Ah, everyone's favorite piece of audio hardware.

Yes, there are quite a few opinions on this board regarding the m-audio gear; I had one for awhile and I'm personally of the opinion that you should invest your money elsewhere. Basically, here's what the m-audio complaints boil down to:
* M-audio has some glitchy mac drivers. Some people don't have any problems at all, and others do.
* OS updates and the m-audio drivers don't always play nice
* Newer drivers have fixed a lot of problems, but the cards are still somewhat "glitchy"
* M-audio cards aren't always hot-swappable, and you'll probably have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers to get your system to re-recognize the card.
As far as audio quality goes, the card sounds great. I just don't think they're worth the trouble.

Also, please keep in mind the fw410 has 4 analog ins but only 2 may be used at a time. Wonky OSX drivers, too, mine wouldn't recognize MIDI in.

oh, and if your computer goes to sleep it loses its connection to the fw410, so you have to reboot. the Mac will only recognize the fw410 on bootup. i'll guess that's what "not hot-swappable" means.

I'd agree with what's being said here about the M-audio / Mac problems, I've experienced most of the problems first hand (w/FW410) and have tried many ways of optimizing my system without positive result. Switched to a Mackie FW sound card and all's fine now.

I'm using the M-Audio Solo with an iBook G3 and it's working fine - with Digital Performer! Live doesn't seem to like it, though. Glitches etc. etc.
I haven't used Live for quite a while but I seem to recall that it works better if you run a Jack server (
www.jackosx.com) and make Live talk to that.
