after all the support and positive spin i gave, while mind wrestling with your disgruntled userbase about your weak ass pricing schemes this time around... i go to buy Live 9 box today and you want an additional 50 damn dollars US for this.

i retract all the nice things i said.

what the hell makes this box SO special that it costs 5 times more than the previous versions? gold foil? hooded sweatshirt?

thinking twice about this upgrade NOW. credit card went back in the wallet. you were so close.

Cubase 7 is nice...

I give this a 3 out of 5, needs more anger.

50 bucks - that's a great deal!

£40 in the UK which means you guys in the US should be charged 60 bucks....

seriously what a bunch of douchewittery. i get 50 bucks off to upgrade my Suite 8 BOX to Live 9 (this week only) and then they charge me an additional 50 bucks - effectively telling me to kiss their greedy green asses and that i get no discount.

Its no suprise anymore these days that developers try to "entice" people to buy direct digital download, by discouraging physical box purchase, by pulling crap like this.

This has been going on in the game industry for some time now.

Digital download sales means 100% straight into their pockets, instead of having to share profit with distributors and retailers.

I suggest an evening of angry drinking.

To be fair the price isn't really about the box and the stickers. The most expensive part is probably the 700 page manual, which may or may not be high-quality paper and ink. Then there's the box, which actually looks quite pretty and elaborate from what I've seen. Oh and 55 GB of data, that's got to be between 6 and 12 DVDs at least, still nothing expensive but all this shit adds up.

We're probably still far from $ 50 production cost but hey, at least we still got boxes. It's obvious they want people to go 100 % digital.

the manual is what i want... in my lap. i hate .pdf manuals! HATE them!

i much prefer to look down and see step 2, step 3 etc...than all that alt+tab back and forth find your spot again scroll... whoops scrolled too far type shit when i'm trying to sort out a problem. also, i can carry a manual with me and sit on the porch while i smoke a cigarette, sip a cold one, and sort through my ordeal without more 1s and 0s mocking me.

fuck it. i'm not upgrading. $308.90 + 9.90 for shipping = too much. i was expecting to hand over about 280.00 today... i seriously had the credit card in hand... but i've got other priorities.

i need a new bike... 300 bucks is good start toward that.

oh oh oh... and get this...

to add insult to injury. Glue owners, people who happened to have purchased Glue before Ableton integrated it, get a discount voucher.

But just think of how much the box will be worth 10 to 15 years from now! The collectible software box market is going to be huge. I’ve already pitched a show about this to the Discovery and History networks.

Don’t like reading PDFs on your computer? Get a tablet. Not to mention within 6 months printed manuals will probably be illegal in the state of CA and there will be a printed manuals for thumb drives exchange program at the local police and fire stations.

bingo... i could have eaten a 20 (100% increase) dollar bite but 50 bucks was too much of my ass to chew at one time.

Consider it a enviromental tax for the shipping and waste.
