my roommate is interested in getting live. Can i transfer my version of 8 on his computer now that i downloaded 9 or will it not work since i authorized it on my computer first?

Sorry if this is a noob question, i'm just unsure on how the authorization works when you upgrade..

No, you'd have to buy a full (non-upgrade) licence for 9 if you wanted to give away 8. Getting 9 cheaper is based on you owning 8. They're all part of a chain.
