I have downloaded the upgrade (64 bit) and ran the install wizard. however there is no ableton9 icon. and I get the message "the application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail"

Anyone know what this means?

Thanks!

Luke

I have the same problem. I installed the Live 64-bit - Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64)
And it still wont run. Now what?!?!? :cry:

Did you restart? Did you reinstall the program after loading the C++ whatsit?

Make sure that you install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package with administrator rights by right-clicking the setup file and click 'Run as administrator'. Also, check your 'Control Panel / Programs / Programs and Features' and make sure that it shows in there which means that it successfully installed. Hope this helps!

Try installing all available Windows updates and the latest Windows service pack and check if this solves the problem as Ableton recommends from this web link, https://www.ableton.com/en/articles/sidebyside/

You may also want to contact Ableton Support for assistance.

All updates were installed prior to my issue. I do have a service desk ticket but it's memorial weekend, so I don't expect any response until Tuesday.

I had the same issue before and what I suggested fixed mine. You may also what to try installing it on another computer, maybe it's an OS related issue where there is some conflicting or corrupted files.

Install on another computer? NO!!! I spent a few hundred dollars building this computer, just for the intent of installing Ableton 9. Why is it not working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have to install Visual C ++ 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2012, without 2012 it will not work.

Ableton live 9 is developed with 2010 and 2012, so 2008 is not as much relevant.

Go to the microsoft site, download and install, then it will work. You don't have to reinstall Ableton live 9 before..

OK, let's get this straight. The capabilities of the computer are not a problem. I've got the C++ 2008 file installed.

I DID try re-installing Live. And not just through the disc. I used the Windows program un-install and followed it up with CCleaner to ensure there were no Live remnants in the registry. Even after the install I still got the same error.

@SuburbanThug: either post something intelligent and/or helpful to this thread, or go away, you're starting to sound like a troll.
