Live 9 Rewire Slave

Noob here.

I'm trying to Rewire Live 9 as a slave to Cubase 7. In Cubase 7 on my Devices menu I have a item for "Max 6 Rewire" but I'm not seeing a Live 9 Rewire. That may be correct or I may need to do something more...looking for ideas.

On the Live 9 side when I open it up (after opening the Q) I get an alert dialog saying it has detected "an active ReWire master device...". Is this the correct behavior?

Never tried to use ReWire before but I am pretty comfortable around DAWs in general.

Thanks,

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the feedback

Start your master and begin by making sure that you have a 32/64-bit master as well as a 32/64
bit slave. (so; if you have Live in 64 bit more; make sure your master is also 64 bit).

Both are definitely 64 bit. With the exception of Live 8 my entire system is 64.

Try to get to point your master to your slave (live). For example like I showed above; 'audio from'.

Here lies the problem me thinks. There is no ReWire device for Live. There is a ReWire device for Max 6 and I can open that up and it show 16 'channels'.

Then start Live. It SHOULD show in the splash screen that its starting as a rewire slave.

After setting the Max 6 ReWire device up in QB I opened Live 9 but the same dialog greats me. My thinking is that Live 9 did not get registered as a ReWire slave device and therefore does not show up in the QB list of available devices. In addition to the Max 6 ReWire there is also a listing for Melodyne so apps do show up as being available.

Thanks again,
-m

Disclaimer: not 100% sober (synth evening turned into a synth night, orchestral colleciton is just... oh well ).

Yes it's getting late here also  I will check back tomorrow...I'd like to test this out with Sonar (my primary DAW) also...just to verify if the same behavior exists.

Thanks much for the feedback, much appreciated.

It appears to me (and others) that Rewire is broken in Live 9.

Thanks for the information, AlakaLazlo. Seems like a bug report may be required.

There were at least 11 people on the 9 beta who reported it around four months ago, and regularly bumped the thread.

Guess what Ableton did? :?

Based on what I saw in the AlakaLazlo thread it occurs to me that this may well be a MS Visual C++ runtime versioning issue. So I'm curious: is this happening on both Mac and Win or strictly on Windows?

Thanks,

I think no matter the Windows version you are using: Vista, 7, 8, 32 bits, 64 bits, rewire doesn’t work anymore with Cubase. I'm disappointed to have to downgrade Live to use my old rewire projects.

B.T.W: Does anyone have Live 9.0.2 ??? :|

maybe Live is done with being a "slave"...

FYI, I got this from Ableton Tech support this morning:

...
Thank you for writing to Ableton.
There is currently a known issue in regards to ReWire 64-bit on Windows machines, where Live 9 cannot be used as a ReWire Slave.
This is something we are currently working on and hope to find a solution for soon.
We appreciate your understanding and patience in this matter.
...

I have to say I don't understand... How can a major product update be released with such an important function being broken? Especially when, as it now appears, the beta testers agressively reported the problem far in advance of the release.

As for patience, that implies one has a choice....

Uh oh. It's not just the 64 bit version!
