Any reviews, opinions, or overall sentiments regarding this synth from an actual owner? I am tempted due to it's mooginess.....and the fact that the price is right. The 25 key annoys me but I could use an expanded controller if needed... Also with my history if I get one I'll be helping everyone else out, because they would probably release a 37 or 49 key version in summer namm.....

I often like to use some higher octave ghost and passing notes. 37 would have been satisfying in that regard. And yes, it is a mono synth which has specific applications, but I am slowly warming up to the psychoacoustics of having analog in the low end, or as a compliment to many excellent VA's. I think the presents can be saved, all 16 of them

You *can* save presets actually. And honestly, are we using "monosynth" as a negativism? Really? You're not going to get a polysynth in this form factor for $1000. And certainly not with the build quality of a Moog.

Once again, everything is amazing (especially in the world of analog right now) and everyone complains.

Moog is trying to hit the $1000 price point while packing in as much juicy analog goodness as they can. One of the compromises to give you that price is a shorter keyboard. Just treat it like a rack unit if you want more keys. VERY easy to solve.

If you want analogue in the low end and are happy to use it for that purpose, have you considered the Minitaur as an alternative? It has some very nice attributes and is cheaper than the Sub Phatty... the only drawback is no keyboard & the note ceiling is C5, but for low end analogue goodness it's very nice. (Having said that if I didn't already have the Minitaur and a Voyager I'd probably get a Sub Phatty & if the Sub Phatty had come out at the same time as the Minitaur, I probably would have got that)

ah the moog sound, well that's mainly down to the filter, the classic ladder,
that this doesnt use, which tbh is a good thing, progress.

The Sub Phatty has the classic Moog 24db ladder filter in it.

You may have somehow gotten the wrong impression from the Marc Doty video, he actually had the filter accidentally in 2 pole or 3 pole mode during the video review. This is also the case in some NAMM videos.

The Sub Phatty has a new circuit called Multidrive post filter, in addition to pre filter distortion. Additionally, the harmonic content of the oscillators is different to other Moog synths, but most similar perhaps to the Minitaur.

Just place this above your keyboard controller and you can use the Sub Phatty's knobs (which send CC) to control your soft synth parameters. I think that's a killer feature on this synth. Vintage like control of your software. Envelopes for envelopes, oscillators for oscillators, filters for filters.

I just unintentionally modified my prior post (had a few glasses of wine) where I mentioned my interest and thoughts that the moog sound would be a compliment and new source of inspiration for my production.

I don't use hardware synths because I'd rather use the money, time and space they take up to do less useful things, such as creating infinite loops of USB 2.0->USB 3.0->USB 2.0->...

Owner, though very new

Apart from its great sound, the Sub Phatty has a *HUGE* amount of functionality. DADSR? Yup. Variable pole filter? Yup. Osc Sync? Yup. All knobs send MIDI? Yup. Continuously variable waveform oscillators, that are also modulation targets. Oscillators overdrive the filters, and an awesome distortion post-filter as well. Patch memory. Fixed beat frequency of the second oscillator. Velocity to a ton of parameters. Really great sounding noise source. Huge modulation possibilities. The list goes on, and I haven't yet scratched the surface.

I've owned a big analog modular synth for many years and I am astounded at the functionality available in this little guy. For me, a great subtractive synth must have timbral complexity, a great filter and flexible modulation. Sub Phatty has all that (in spades) and a bunch of other cool things.

Highly recommended.
