Resampling/looping on the fly help..

So, in my head, I know what I want to do.. it is applying to the ableton "logic" for doing so in an efficient manner that is giving me a headache.

Example: during a live set, playing a guitar riff, or a vocal performance, I want to capture a portion of the sound and loop it on the fly... while it is looping, manipulate the length and add effects...

Common sense says just create a separate track that has the audio coming in, and from there just hit record and play when I get to a a bar or more of what I want to capture.. and once it is captured, then just midi map the loop length and mess with that while the loop is playing.....

Any suggestions? comments?

I don't mind using the live looper, but I want to be able to go back to older clips if possible.

This is one method to try:

Have channel set as "In", unarmed. This will be set to receive your guitar. You should just hear it when you play. You can even add fx if you want.

Here is the capture part. Create an audio channel set to 'Off' and arm it for recording. Set the input of that channel From the first channel with the guitar.

Now when you play live, you only hear guitar from the first channel. You can start recording a clip on the second channel, and since it is set to Off, it won't play the audio you're playing, but Only clips it has recorded.

This allows you to play still if you want. Or screw with clips on that other channel.

Lastly, you can duplicate that second channel to have several instances. Then you can record 5 clips in one scene. Or 5 clips per channel. And jump around. Just make sure they all are armed.
