Browser not showing vst plug-ins

I've just re-installed Live 8.4 on a new MacBook Pro. I'm trying to insert a .VST (mobius 2 looper, that I just downloaded) but the browser doesn't show any of the .vst plug-ins. It only shows Audio units from Apple.
I've set the proper folder for plug-ins on the preference page and rescanned. I've even restarted Live a couple times in case the scanning was deficient. I can see that the .vst plug-ins are in the proper folder on my hard drive but I can't seem to get Live to scan and detect them...
Is there some way of troubleshooting the scan function in Live?
