Trebleton v0.1 : Ableton clip launcher for Android (free)

Hi,
I'd like to introduce an Ableton (Live 8 ) clip launcher I wrote for Android.
It comes up as an interface file to load in the "Control" app.
It's meant to be run on a 10" Android tablet, although it should run on anything Android.

For those who don't know, "Control" is a free Android app which enable creation of OSC interfaces written in javascript, kinda like TouchOSC.

get Control here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ts.Control

get Trebleton here:
http://yourjavascript.com/5313355702/tr.js

Read instructions here:
https://maps.djtechtools.com/mappings/1341

Comments,suggestions are welcome!

And what would be a clip launcher without a screenshot:

What if you don't have a local webserver to kick off that javascript? That sounds pretty interesting but I don't have a 10" Android (Kindle Fire 7" atm).

Hi Mike,

Default IP configured in the interface file is : 192.168.43.1
This is the default IP of an Android tablet if you turn on "portable wifi hotspot".

So I suggest you turn on wifi hotspot on kindle fire and load the script from the URL provided.

If your Kindle has a different IP than 192.168.43.1, and you don't want to use a local webserver, just download the script ,edit the IP, and reupload the script to yourjavascript.com, it's free.

Here are easier instructions, following remarks I received:

Requirements : Ableton Live + LiveOSC
Control application on tablet:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ts.Control

Installation:

1 - Start Ableton on your computer , load a set, and make sure LiveOSC is selected as a control surface in Ableton prefs
2 - Activate portable wifi hotspot on your tablet
3 - Connect your computer to the tablet hotspot thru wifi
4 - Start control application on tablet
5 - Enter computer IP as a new Destination in Control with port 9000
6 - Select this new destination you just created
7 - Load new interface in Control from this address:
http://yourjavascript.com/5313355702/tr.js
Now you should see your set's clips appearing on the tablet.

Usage:

“reset” : will reset all elements to original state

“menu” : display control menu

“play” : activates general play and stop button in Ableton

“up”,”down”,”left”,”right” : navigates accross tracks and scenes

Tapping a clip will start it, tapping again will stop it.

Same for scenes.

Clips will become red when triggered, green when playing.

Scenes will become green when playing.

Not tested with anything else than an Android 3.2.1 10? tablet

Hi,

I'm really excited by the possibilities of Trebleton. AFAIK, this is the first app that will offer Clip launching with labled Clips (like Touchable) for Android.

My first question is that I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. It's the GT-P3113 version and it's WiFi only. There doesn't appear to be a way to activate a Wi-Fi hotspot feature on the Wi-Fi only version - you need to have the cellular version to do that. Is there some way to get the Wi-Fi hotspot connection going on this tablet. Would Ad-Hoc hotspot work? If so, how?

Next question is if there's any way to connect the table to the laptop via the USB cable. I would think that would be more reliable and have less latency. I want to use this for my DJ gigs and reliability is essential: I would not want to have Wi-Fi problems during a gig.

Thanks!

I finally got my Galaxy Tab 2 Wi-Fi only tablet set up as a Wi-Fi hotspot (using Software Data Cable from the Play Store).

However, I don't have a cellular connection on my Wi-Fi only tablet. When I set it up as a Wi-Fi hot spot, it turns off the normal Wi-Fi connection. That means that I don't have internet connectivity and I can't use yourjavascript.com to run the Trebleton code. What's the best way that I run tr.js on my tablet without an internet connection? Is there a local web server that you recommend?

Update:

I'm trying PAW local web server for Android on my tablet. When it's running, I can view the tr.js in the Android browser. However, when I enter the same URL for the Interface in Control, it says "Could not load. Please try another URL".

I feel like I'm so close. Any suggestions about what to do next, would be appreciated.

Thanks!

hi kensonic,
as discussed elsewhere, I think my instructions are wrong.
Obviously control interface needs to be loaded off internet BEFORE starting wifi hotspot on tablet.

I would suggest you to :
- install control and load interface from internet
- then follow steps 1 to 6 above

Let me know!
