Hi Frank,
Adding drum and instrument racks will consistently rename the channel on OSX 10.8.3 here.
Please let me know in which cases the channel will not be renamed, and at best provide steps to reproduce that.

Ironically, I was doing some organization in my drum racks today and I came across this problem.
Here's a single permutation I've noticed that appears to yield inconsistent results:
Start with an empty drum rack
Add a few drum patches.
Take two or three of them and then group them together within the drum rack (try grouping them both from the device list view and from the session view track title area)
Then in session view, rename the group via the track title bar.
The device group's name in the clip/instrument view at the bottom does not always refresh.
If you try to rename the group from the device/clip view area as opposed to the aforementioned, the session view title bar USUALLY updates itself. I have yet to see the device view area probably refresh after renaming the group via the session view track title area.
