Super buggy install onto new computer....

So I recently upgraded from an ancient PC to... another PC, however much newer and better specs. My experience with using Live 8 on my old pc was sometimes slow but always ran fairly smooth, but my new install has been completely buggy and detrimental to the whole process.
Mainly, during all computer function, including Live, my audio engine will freeze up and I have to play something on my midi controller to "wake it back up" as it were. It usually takes a bit to for you to hit the right midi note that switches it back on. Incredibly annoying. My current version is 8.4, which is different from my old setup, probably has something to do with it. I'm wondering if I should back up everything on a live pack and reinstall it. I have about three different versions like the launchpad edition and the APC40 edition, maybe use one of those?? It doesn't work with either of the two controllers currently, although the red lines around the session view still appear. Any feedback would be appreciated. Cheers.
