It's automatic only if you decide it to be in the preferences.

in beta versions automatic updates cant be disabled

Why is there such few bugs fixed in the latest betas?
I hope everything's alright at Ableton's office.
(maybe it's just vacations for everyone after the rush of the release)

If ever a time there was to NOT go on vacation, it would be after the rush of the release...

Strange, I never had any automatic update and I don't remember doing anything special to block this. (I don't want it to happen btw).

All beta versions have automatic updates enabled by default which cant be disabled unless you block your net connection with either firewall or disabling ethernet hardware. The reason is that we assume some of our beta users will not always look in the forum for recent beta versions and we wish to make sure you test with the most recent version.

For release versions (non beta) you can disable auto update in preferences.
