Sound Fonts support left out of Ableton Live 9?
Sound Fonts support left out of Ableton Live 9?
I notice Sound Fonts *.SF2 do not appear to be supported in AL9 anymore.
With AL8, a simple double click on the Sound Font file will deposit the WAV/AIF samples in the zone tab nice and neat, this is not the case for AL9.
I suppose I could create SF2 instruments in AL8, then import them into AL9, which I have for my legacy instruments.
But this is humbug to say the least.
Has anyone figured a work around?

I thought sampler supported SF2/SFZ file loading? And aren't SF2/SFZ text files, no wav/aif associated with them? Where you could create your own voicings to instruments or something along those lines? I haven't looked under the hood so to speak of this yet as I was wanting to snag the freebie symphony one that's been out there for a while now.

soundfonts still work here for me, just tested importing an sf2 fine, this is on the latest beta. However sfz I dont think has ever been supported, I dont ever remember being able to import any sfz collection I had

Next time I fire up L9 Suite I'll look for an SF2 file or so that I should have laying around somewhere and bring it into Sampler and see how it sounds. I do want to snag that symphony if I can ever get a good connection to one of the links....

I assume your talking about sonatina, http://sso.mattiaswestlund.net/
I believe he only has links to the sfz versions though. I think the sf2 versions got posted up in the kvr/usr forums (which sonatina's seems to be down right now) discussion on it

Yes, that's the one. So SFZ isn't supported in Sampler? Hmmm, well not sure how many of those are out there that are useful or what they comprise for instruments. But seeing I have ProjectSAM + Live 9's OIC + Komplete 8/Kontakt 5 VSL not sure if I need to add more into the list of instruments/samples/sounds....lord knows I have enough to use I think now....

Thanks for the discussion guys. Ezelkow1, you must be doing something right because I tried it, but the transfer to Sampler failed again. I got AL9 Suite V.9.0.2.
Can I ask how you are getting your *.SF2 files into Sampler (step by step please)? Maybe it is a simple as putting the SoundFont files into a specific folder.
I would highly appreciate it.

Re: Sound Fonts support left out of Ableton Live 9?
I havent done anything special. I just drag n drop the sf2 file onto live's interface, usually directly onto the session view. Then live will just import each preset within the sf2 into the 'sampler->imports' folder in your user library.
Then you can just open the presets as normal. So they dont have to be in any special folder or anything like that. Im not sure if they will show up as indexed files though, I drag them from file explorer/desktop directly and not through lives browser.

Outstanding, that did it.
I can see the *.adv pop up in the samples>imports folder as soon as I drag and drop the *.sf2 into an audio track.
Thanks very much. I do believe I owe you a beer.

Re: Sound Fonts support left out of Ableton Live 9?
Ok, I give in - what is the trick? Whatever I tried, Live9 would not let me drop, open or elsewise access any SF2 file. I seem to need a "Dummy's Guide to import Soundfonts in Ableton Live", I am afraid...

You do at least need to own the Sampler Instrument, I'm afraid.Miq wrote:I seem to need a "Dummy's Guide to import Soundfonts in Ableton Live", I am afraid...
