Can push mute a drum midi note rather than the audio from that drum sample?

It is possible to Deactivate MIDI notes, not sure if that is available on Push though..

Anyone? I can't tell from the manual whether its muting the notes, the pad or what...muting the pad itself leads to audio being cut off in an untimely fashion. I make midi muting racks, but it would be great if push has a solution.

Deactivating midi notes doesn't seem to be automatable, and is therefore useless for performance or improvisation.

i made myself max devices for that purpose in my live set, but that would need force mapping

Maybe Ableton MIDI device Scale? I use this to do things like change my HH patten to the Ride via a button I press on my controller....you could map the device so when you turn it on it cuts off the Kick drum......idk hope that helps

I know there are various techniques. What I'm asking is how push's "mute" function button works - does it mute midi, or audio?

It works just like it does without Push

For example I have 2 Midi tracks with the first routed to the second

No instruments on the first and whatever instrument on the second

Create a clip and place some midi note on the first track only

Play that clip so it plays the instrument
if you mute the first your muting the midi if you mute the second your muting the audio

Pretty common sense right?

But how does it work in drum racks? Is it deactivating notes, muting drum samples or something else?

I mailed the Abes, and the Push does indeed have a way to deactivate all the midi notes for a particular pad, by pressing select, mute and pad together. Not sure if that's ergonomic - but the Push does seem to have proper drum machine style note muting functionality, rather than just muting audio chains.

As a follow-up, were you able to make it work on Push? I am thinking of getting Push myself but ONLY if it has this functionality of being able to mutue midi notes going out into my hardware drum machine on the go. It is incredible how difficult it is to get something to do this easily!

Also, is it "ergonomic" after all? Or is it very hard to mute and solo notes on the fly? Also, can you solo several parts at the same time? What I mean is to solo, for example, the base drum and the snare, so that only these two parts are playing.

Yes it works. The bad ergonomic aspect is that you have to press the Select and the Mute buttons at the same time, which are a little far appart on Push, but it works.
And yes, you can mute the notes of several note lanes at the same time, by pressing several pads.

One more thing: what I really wanted to know is whether you can SOLO, not mute, several midi notes/drum parts at the same time. In this case, I guess, it would work by pressing Select and Solo at the same time, and then the pads you want to solo at the same time (say only a snare and the hihats for example, muting all other tracks). Does this work? I ask because we are dealing with midi notes here, not audio. And because these solo buttons in the midi chains are not midi mappable in Ableton Live, it may not work so simply.

No you can't solo notes, but yes, you can solo the pads by pressing Solo and the pads (as many of them as you like)

Well soloing Midi notes is not implemented in Live either, so I doubt it. But you could probably hack something up where it just mutes all the others. But I don't think this would work via the native Push script. But I have a hard time seeing a use for this.

Muting Pads:
allows you to just take out a sound all together for an instance
Muting Note lanes (but not pads):
allows you to mute Midi patterns in your pad, while you play over it live
Soloing a pad: allows you to only hear one sound in your Midi clip for an instance.
Soloing Midi Notes:???? How is this useful?!
