Adding layers to a drum rack cell

So in live 8, there was a way to add layers to a drum rack cell by holding ctr (cmd on mac) and dragging the sample onto the cell. The cell would be labeled multi to let you know you had multiple samples on that cell
I'm using live 9 and I can't seem to do this. I tried holding ctr, shift + ctr, nothing works. It just puts the new sample in a separate cell next to where I dropped it. I even tried manually creating a new chain within the drum cell and dragging the sample into it, but that just creates another midi note essentially and if I wanted it to be layered I'd have to draw in new midi notes instead of having the same midi note triggering all the samples I want from that drum cell.
Has anyone else seen this? Know a work around?
