diva sounds too polished ?

I'm demoing diva, and yes it sounds pretty amazing, and i'm trying to love it, but i'm thinking it maybe sounds too clean and polished. I mean how can you get it to sit properly in the mix as opposed to say minimonsta. is it a touch clinical and sterile. comments appreciated by those who have more time with it

It's subjective of course, for me is the opposite minimonsta sounds too thin compared to DIVA.I love huge sound out of it, specially pads, leads and bass.

I've always been of the opinion that Zebra sounds 'too clean,' so I feel what you're getting at here. Though i was pretty impressed with Diva's sound when I demo'd it (didn't buy it due to the insane CPU usage).

IIRC few people was able to tell the name of the synth in blind test... so the sound is subjective, and no characteristic in the sound but in the GUI & workflow.

Since I discovered parallel processing, i've come to the conclusion that you can make the thinnest sounds as fat as you like, so don't get bogged down by the "this sounds better than that" argument as it's fairly pointless once you've gotten to grips with parallel processing....and mid/side processing to prevent your mixes turning into gloop.

It's also gone a long way into curing my gear lust.....I am now of the opinion that I can achieve the sounds I want without buying the latest plug in, in fact, if i'd discovered it earlier, i'd not have bought Komplete or any of the other plug-ins.

I know it's a cpu hog, but for me, I would never say Dive sounds too polished.

Diva is a beast. I love it, & it is about to get a whole lot better.

I'm wondering what the rest of your track sounds like if Diva is too polished

Have you tried...

... turning up the oscillator drift?

... detuning the shit out of the oscillators?

... eqing some elements so it sits?

... turning it off and on again?

... adding some chorus/phaser/rotary?

If you want it to sound a bit more rough and nasty without it sounding low quality try running DIVA through a tape effect like the u-he SATIN Tape plugin that comes out in 1 - 2 months or Soundtoys console amp sim Decapitator.

I would agree Zebra sounds clean, Diva and ACE on the other hand can be made to sound raw.
