so apparently if you have more than 8 tracks you cannot access the volume of any track beyond the 8th one without first going into session view
this is mind boggling
so the yellow box will move in session view but not in note mode

in session mode the top row of encoders follows the arrow buttons
in note mode they do not
either this is a bug or it is an incredible oversight error

I think I noticed this too!
Thought push had frozen.
I'm gonna check this out again, I think it's an oversight!

Incredible oversight error indeed. I'm already planning on switching over to Bitwig when it's just a little more stable because Ableton has basically lost touch with it's user base and apparently now has absolutely ZERO common sense (which is evidenced by this and countless other poorly designed functions). You CAN get Native Kontrol's PXT-Live and PXT-Live-Plus though, which add a wealth of features to Push in Live 9 and might help resolve your issue, (not entirely sure because there are ALOT of features and I don't know them all by heart. The only problem is it's incredibly dense, complex and hard to get used to the idea of hitting buttons labeled as something to access a completely different function (example: hitting "volume" to change the encoders to global mode controls). I got PXT-Live thinking it would be useful but the time it'd take to learn and use everything is not worth the couple seconds I MIGHT gain by using it, so I just stick to Push's default for the most part.

But, as I've been using Bitwig Studio more, I'm coming to terms that I'll just have to make the switch. In Bitwig Sudio they now have a couple free Push API's so you can use Push in Bitwig. There's one that's identical to how it works in Live, with only one or two features missing. But the amazing thing about Bitwig is you can program the API's yourself so it wouldn't be that hard to edit the features of Push and make it work exactly the way you want. So for example, if you want to be able to access the 9-16 volume tracks in note mode, you can program it to easily do so. I have a few pieces of hardware aside from Push so if Live continues down this same path, I'm definitely going to fully make the switch and take the time to program all the hardware to work precisely how I want.

That's the first thing I see regarding Bitwig that could get me to "switch".
(Especially if they make it a global system, like mentioned in the video)

But until they have a deeply scriptable API, where knowledgeable people already did some of the scripting(something like ClyphX), this is all just candy for me anyways.

But it's great to have some real competition in this sector of performance DAWs to light some fire under Abletons butts

Wow, just figured out you can also just hold down the 'Session' and 'Shift' buttons to change the grid, thereby allowing you to access more volume tracks in Note mode. Can't recall ever reading or seeing anything about being able to hold down multiple buttons w/ Push, simultaneously, in order to retain your current settings after. Gotta give them credit for that.

Lol, yea I've been somewhat critical of Ableton lately in hopes of pressuring them to make some necessary and useful changes. It's not just a coincidence that around the same time Bitwig came out flaunting multiple monitor support, 9.1.2 was released with support for dual monitors. It just seems like the bigger & bigger a DAW gets, and the more money it makes, the more that company then exploits its ability to make money off of updates, and the less it less it cares about the people who actually use it. Ableton still reinforces the whole, "Made by Producers & DJ's, for Producers & DJ's" thing, yet when I see that ex Ableton employees leave to create a very similar DAW and incorporate many of the incredibly no-brainer changes Ableton should have done a long time ago, I can't help but feel they're totally pissing away the people that made their DAW amazing to begin with. That being said, I still use Live 9 and still feel it's the best in its class, but know it can also be A LOT better. Sorry for getting off topic on Bitwig,

Nice! Do you have also have PXT-Live-Plus or do you just have PXT-Live??? In respects to using Push live PXT does seem incredibly useful, especially in regards to how you can launch or change clips. For mixing, I have a Novation SL MKII Zero, and while some of its features overlap w/ Push, the faders, crossfader, and Automap make it incredibly useful. Even though you can put your VST's in a rack, set them up and save them to use them in Push, I find it a hella of a lot easier to use my MKII Zero where Automap instantly assigns all the plugins controls.
