INSERT SILENCE IN SESSION VIEW?

Hello friends,
Just wondering what peoples go-to method is for inserting a silence/ deleting an audio bit within a clip in the session view? I know you can use envelopes and click little automation dots, drag the lines for a volume fade, etc- isn't that cumbersome? Is there a faster way to do it? OR do it in the arrange page, consolidate, drag it back to session- cumbersome as well.
I understand Live is a performance sequencer w non-destructive editing, but I also know a good many people are using it for studio arranging and NOT performing. So how do folks reconcile the whole audio editing part? And please don't suggest loading a separate program for the audio editing, gross.
Thanks!

Drag it to Arrangement, chop it, dice it, do whatever. Consolidate and drag it back to session. Or is that too much work?

That's cool, my only gripe is that arrange page has horrible zooming properties, you have to zoom from the top then go to each track and drag it down to get some vertical zoom- that's a lot of clicking track by track, an absolute joke. Couldn't they have implemented an extra zoom for both horizontal & vertical, like in Logic you'd hold down option & command, click and drag. Anyone else feel this way or am I crazy?

I do get a bit sick of clicking here, there, and everywhere. Zooming can definitely be a pain in the ass in Live.

One way I find fairly useful is the highlighting the section and using the APPLE+E command for splitting it. While the new section is still highlighted press 0 (zero). it will deactivate the clip. I use this all the time for cutting out drums or other parts to create some movement/changes in the track.

You could use two copies of the clip one at full volume the other at 0 volume. Put them one on top of the other, set quantization to none (or whatever you like) for both and turn on legato for both. Then you can use a Launchpad, keyboard, or whatever you like to toggle between them in real time.

Hmmm.. that's not a bad idea. I'm actually going to try this for something else and see what I can come up with. Either way I will probably be recording those clip launches into arrange view, consolidating and dragging back into session view
