What is the best soundcard for use with I Book . Preferrably running off firewire power (i.e. not requiring other power source). 4ins/4outs type of deal.

Cheers

I've been looking myself... so far i would say:

High end: RME Fireface 800 (1500 US)
It's not cheap, but it has fantastic A/D conversion, and 4 decent mic pres. Not to mention you could record an entire orchestra with this thing...

Low end: M-Audio Firewire Solo (180 US)
Very inexpensive. Not sure how the converters or mic pre hold up, but it does have nice features.

i can say to avoid the edirol fa101, as mine decided to go down
right before a show overseas. not very hardy, even when treated gently.
the sound would cut in and out, no power loss. internal problem.
digging my echo i/o for portability now,
but use a digi002r for multiple in/out...
i've taken the digi on a few long tours, it's been abused, but never let me down yet.
cheers

for 4 ins and 4 outs and a buss powered firewire interface, check out the m-audio ozonic. It's not bad.

If you can live with an a/c adaptor, check out the motu 828 mk2. rock solid.
