Tempo incorrect when syncing! (yes, I checked the FAQ...)

I'm syncing a laptop to my stationary computer, running Live on both of them. I'm using MIDI clock sync.

Problem is that the laptop gets the tempo all wrong. If I'm running the master at 120, the laptop's tempo is jumping around in the 100 region. If I set the master to 102 bpms or lower, I get decent sync but still some jumping.

The FAQ says in regard to this problem:

"Please check the Preferences Audio tab in Live and check that you do not have the buffer size of the audio device set high."

I've set the buffer to some insane low amount (3 msecs) and the problem still persists.

Of course, It might be that either of the MIDI interfaces aren't up to snuff.

Any suggestions?

Edit: Hmm, currently suspecting either of my MIDI interfaces. Didn't get better results when trying to synch with Cubase as master.

Hi Michael-SW,

please let us know which exactly setup do use.

So for each of the both computer do you use

- which computer (Mac, PC, Operating system)
- which MIDI interface
- which version of Live

regards,
Alex

I think I have it under control - seems to be the MIDI out from my evolution keyboard. Probably not really made to pump out high volumes of MIDI messages from the PC

Got sync working without problems from my laptop to a friends laptop.
