Can M4L be made to do what Silent Way does? (CV outputs)

Pretty much what the title says. Can MaxForLive be made to provide Control Voltages out of DC coupled audio interfaces to modulate and control modular synthesizers? Like what Silent Way by Expert Sleepers does?

Say I wanted to have a ~plug~ that would use uploaded samples to be used as FM sources for modulating my modular synth. Is that type of thing within the limits of M4L?

I'm ~meh, so-so~ with Reaktor as far as understanding and working with it. It seems that M4L is sortof along the same ethos as Reaktor, is that a fair assessment? Can mere mortals without 4-year degrees in smartguyism grasp M4L?

I'm upgrading L9Std to L9Suite soon so I'll have access to M4L. I'm excited by the possibilities that I've been told await me.

Soo .... the CV output thing .. yea?

machinate beat me to it - but yeah the stretta plugs are pretty good.

i think there is still room for someone to do more with plugs like this (cv / modular / etc)

ive grown to hate the silent way stuff, but still come back to it every now and then.. anyone with lots of smartguyismus want to take a swing at it? 8) 8)

Very cool. I'm hoping to be able to work out certain things, I'm also hoping to use M4L (as well as Reaktor) as models for working out circuits that I can make into actual hardware modules.

This stuff is just beyond cool!

haha -

what i like about the silent way stuff is the way its also modular (you can do scales / LFOs / triggers) but the interface and setup / calibration is terrible.. . takes me a half hour every time to get it running.

the stretta ones are great interfaces but seem quite limited in their capabilities,.. if i has the time (and concentration) i would get in there.. im always checking max4live.info for something like this - but havent seen anything come along yet.

Maybe I'm missing something in your comment about Silnet Way, but can't you save the calibration files and just reload them for each synth? Like I said I'm probably just not reading your post properly.

sorry for taking a month to get back on this one

i think silent way is a great software / hardware solution and the guys that make it seem really cool and helpful - which is why i was always hestitant to criticize (bash) it online.

but i spent many frustrating hours trying to calibrate / recalibrate / try a new cable / use a different plugin .. i find the software interfaces really confusing (but im sure very useful for some).. the plugins always made me feel a bit dumb to be honest.. so i stopped using them.

now i see the stretta cv patches arent working on L9 - but i would love something with a simple interface thats easy to configure ... any M4L guys out there with too much time on their hands? 8)

I think I may just stick with hardware for now. Y'know, like EG modules and LFO modules and the like. I may end up keeping my Dot Com system a more simple setup, and use it for modulating external audio sources as well as creating simple analogue patches. I have a Nord Micro Modular that can do nearly anything I want, and I am planning on buying another one as a backup.

Whether I use Silent Way, M4L, or the Nord G1 Modular, I am using computer "editors" no matter which of those three options I select. Seeings how I already have the Nord I think I may set the plans for using Silent Way or M4L to modulate my modular synth aside. There's too many "maybes" when using Silent Way (as you've outlined in your posts) and M4L is sortof "above me" unless I were to devote big huge hours to it's use and understanding. The Nord? It's far easier to understand given my set of experiences. And it's nearly glitchles and super stable. Hard to argue with success.

i hear you - i ended up getting a low-cost midi to cv doepfer module for my eurorack which is great for a fast n dirty interface between the synth and live for clocking / sequencing / melodic stuff.

although ive recently been doing some shows with just the modular and been enjoying random generators + lfos + clock divides + wiggling + etc...

also got alot of mileage out of my nord before i sold it for a blofeld desktop (which im loving for many other reasons and things that i missed in the nord).
