Cant hear usb connected guitar during recording(only after)

I'm using ableton 9, I was perfectly able to record and listen to the recording with effects (with earphones) simultaneously. However, when I record with my new ableton the audio sound bars go up and down as grey bars instead of green ones. Which after recording and I play it back I can not only FINALLY hear it with effects but the green bars are shown as well. I have searched pretty in depth to find the answer.
