This goes for export, freeze and consolidate - all using a single core

... on your PC.
sorry, just seemed a sweeping generalization.

Nope the OP is right on this. Reaper is very good at this. BTW, this is old news. Someone pointed this out with Reaper vs. Sonar.

I used reaper as an example, could've been sonar and cubase too - they both export/freeze in half of the time

Implying something is obsolete is perhaps forgetting that ongoing development may eventually address multi-core implementation?

I've got 24 available hyperthreaded cores in this Mac Pro and Live only uses 1 of them when rendering. 7 minute tracks sometimes take 20 minutes to render.
Logic, on the other hand, chews through rendering using a bunch of cores.

The longer I am using Ableton the more it gets on my nerves. I am really honest about these feelings. I am also on a new Mac with 16Gb Ram and several i7 cores. When using Ableton you never get the feeling being on a fast computer.
Using external gear is still complicated in Ableton when talking of automation in Arrangement View and the program crashes quite often.
I am hoping for Bitwig to come out and solve some of the anoying things I find in Ableton.

Then tell me why there is a special TAB in preferences called CPU?
Which lets you set Multi Core/Multi CPU support for both Live and Rewire.

Why? So live can assign the available cpu cores across all tracks during playback. I mentioned single core use in freezing/mixdown only

If this is only for offline processing I don't mind that much...
would be nice if it were faster.. but meh..
Reaper is known to be the most CPU/memory efficient DAW... seconded by Cubase

Not for you, but I often have to do offline bounces for live backing tracks..

It really proves how Reaper is very resource efficient ove3r most DAWs out there.

This thread jumps out the most:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=172654
What is striking is that Ableton completely ignores this. No official comment anywhere in any of these threads.
I guess, seeing how they are handling Push and it´s fiasco. No surprise here. /shrug
Bitwig needs to launch sooner than later and massive amounts of people jumping ship.
Maybe then Ableton will finally get a wake up call and snap out of their sheer arrogance and go back to their roots and start interacting again with their customers.
