looking for a great sax midi or sample

Post by HighSide » Mon Jul 29, 2013 2:18 am

I am fairly new to ableton. I have ableton suite 9. I listened to hundreds of sounds and have not found any saxaphone sounds. Can anyone help point me in the right direction? Also brass instruments.

Thanks for the help

For brass, Ableton offers a couple of options as Live Packs.

First you have Orchestral Brass (which comes free with suite).

Second you have Sam Orchestral Essentials which costs some money.

I don't know of any Saxophone sampler packs.

If you want to stay using Sampler and want to use Sampler and continue to get your hands dirty you can look for free sound fonts but in most cases you will need to manually tweak amp envelopes to get the soundfonts to sound right (unless you have some free Soundfont players like SFZ which has better compatibility than Sampler).

Also you could look for some Kontakt libraries which would surely have some. Even if you don't own Kontakt if the product is a dedicated library you could use the free Kontakt player plug-in to play the library.

i tend to think that Kontakt is pretty impressive, but i don't have any point of comparison.

Chris Hein has some great sax, but it costs. Chris Heins horns compact is good value, and worth a look. I use Vir2's Mojo Horns and like it a lot, but it is expensive...
Kontakt seems to be the best thing for getting good horns, although I get the impression the modelled stuff is just as good these days.
