How to edit a sequenced drum part without playing it

Sorry if this was asked before, but I couldn't seem to find the answer.

I wonder if there is a way to work on a new drum part without actually playing it, while there's another part already played.

For example, lets say I have a loop playing which consists of double length-part (what I mean is that its "two pads long", the ones on the bottom right).

Now, I want to work on a new part without actually playing it. This part could populate the third and fourth pads (which will make the final loop doubled), or even making a new clip altogether - to me it doesn't make a difference. I just want to work on it, finish it, and then switch to it only after its ready.

Is there a way to do such a thing? :|

In case you are wondering, what I'm trying to achieve is to be able to have nice switches to a programmed part while playing live. I want it clean cut to a whole new song even, without having these endless "hey, wait a sec while a build my loop here" moments.

You could try it this way:

1. sequence your first loop
2. hit duplicate
3. switch to session mode and select the clip which is not playing by hitting Select + clip
4. switch back to note mode and edit your clip (use Select + pad to silently select the pad you want to edit the sequence of)
