Just for the record, you can change that behavior by holding Shift while in Scales mode. "The “Sequent” options lay out all notes in order." (https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/using ... other-keys)

Here's a big cheat solution:
Use Native Instruments Battery in an instrument rack.
That works perfectly in chromatic mode!

The option to group Drum Rack to Instrument Rack so that it show on Push as 64note mode is gone with the firmware update and 9.1....damn.

it would make a lot of sense to implement a toggle for drumracks, using the note button, to switch between the step sequencer and a 'chromatic' layout of 64 pads. this way, we can keep the melody-based tracks in a scale mode, and have a chromatic layout as soon as the drum rack track is selected.

Good suggestion. In the interim, aside from PXT-Live, ClyphX provides an action (PUSH DRINS) that allows you to force Push into standard Note mode (with all 64 pads playable) even when a Drum Rack is on the selected Track. This allows you to use all 64 pads to play Drum Racks and also to use the new (in Live 9.1) polyphonic step-sequencer with Drum Racks.

On the downside though, playback feedback (which indicates which notes are being played) doesn’t fully work with this approach. Reason being, the playback feedback from Drum Racks only applies to the 16 pads that are visible. So you can play 64 pads at a time, but only receive feedback for 16 pads at a time.
