OK - I can see that there is a 'Samples' folder in the User Library sub-directory.

But my samples, obviously, are located in the same place they have always been on my HD.

What is the correct way to direct Push to my sample library?

Surely I don't have to move my whole sample libraries location, nor duplicate it?

Browse it from a drum pad in drum rack and it'll be wherever you put in under Places.

I'm not sure I explained quite right - when I browse it from a drum pad in drum rack - like you say - all I can see is the Live factory drum sounds folders:

•Bell
•Bongo
•Clap...

etc etc...

I already have some shortcuts to my sample library in the sidebar of Ableton's browser:

How can I browse them from Push? Do i have to relocate my entire Sample collection into the Live User Library? (ie. User Library > Samples) I tried just putting an alias in there, and it didn't work.

Can't solve your problem but I can answer part of your question.

As far as I know, the default Samples folder in your User library is for sounds that have been incorporated in instruments (drum racks, instrument racks) that you have saved in your user Presets. So for example: I like the Sonarte found objects library. Every time I make an instrument based on e.g. the Garden Fork, the Plastic Bucket, or the Wadded Tampon, that sound gets saved in my User Library . This means that even if I delete the original source files, they will be maintained in my library.

This folder is *separate* from my *own* samples directory, which I have saved under Places by using the Add Folder functionality.


I believe that I can access that folder via my push. But I am in Johannesburg now, approximately 1700 km away from my Push , so I can't test it right now.

There really should not be this much guesswork involved - and I don't want to screw up my existing sample library trying to work it out.

Yes, there are many things that are not properly explained and documented.

off topic: I personally suspect that a lot of the negativity around the new Browser is greatly due to people not taking enough care to find out how it really works. Don't get me wrong, there are real problems with the browser. But there are also acceptable workarounds for now.

...essentially - 'Go and make some 128s if you want to browse your samples'

Not the best solution. I have made a few 128s (this takes abit of time) - and yes, they are great for browsing DRUM samples.

This is a not so good if I want to place a loop in my set, or if I want to just switch out one drum pad with something else from my library.

Surely there is a better solution/proper documentation from Ableton?

Well, at least I got an answer from Ableton regarding whether or not this is possible:

Oh well.... Push is SO frustrating. Its almost excellent. If they can sort out this browser non-sense, and a few little usability annoyances, it will be great.

Still debating whether to keep the damn thing or not.
