I'm not much of a stock sound user but I recently got push so I've been trying out a lot of Live 9's drum packs. Compared to Maschine, I must say, they really suck. Any thoughts?

Unless you're in glitchy robot space stuff, it sucks so hard that it actually is entertaining.

I personally like them, but I guess it depends on what your end aim is.

As for Maschine packs, the only thing I have to compare to Live is the iPad Maschine app. The samples to me seemed quite cheesy/generic but I can see that they'd appeal if you're looking to make drum'n'bass, dubstep and that ilk.insert genre.

I tend to collect my own samples anyway from field recordings found stuff and free samples so I can take or leave generic commercial sound packs as I don't make generic commercial music.

Ya. I like to make my own drums too and build my own sample collections but I do sometimes start w/ stock sounds and edit/process them.
Like I said the only reason I noticed is because I just got Push and was browsing Lives library w/ it. Idk, I really don't like any of the drum packs from Ableton at all.
Guess ill have to figure out how to browse my own stuff w/ Push.

@OP:

This is tough. I like maschine "ok" but it's not always the bee's knees either. I think it's possible to use either depending on the skills.

I totally dislike Maschine as a controller/music machine, so haven't really got to evaluating the sounds.

The Live packs are not made for "use as is" as I see them but are obvious starting points for further processing. It depends on what you're after I guess, but the packs seem like good partners — I haven't bought any extras as have the suite ones —  to my next plug-in purchase which is the Tremor drum plug-in and maybe Punch too. I'm planning to build drum racks with these as well as the drum packs that came with Suite and my own samples.

While anyone need a 909 solution IMHO, fresh libraries are way more important than ready-to-go, no matter what your style.

I don't have Maschine, and I am not into spacy robot glitch stuff.

But I find Live's drum racks a bit blah.

I just make my own racks with 128s. Map the first macro to sample selection.

It is a lot of time in setup, but it turns out to work very nicely with Push.

Depends on what people mean by "good".

If you want good sounds right out of the box with no effort involved, then probably not good. But obviously there is nothing wrong with them, especially considering the capabilities of Drum Rack.

I use all the stock synths in ableton and thats it. No vst's or anything. But the stock drum kits I ditched a long time ago. Get some samples, create user drum racks and save them. Then you can just load them up anytime with push!
